30 Years of Cerebrovascular Diseases
Check out the specially invited papers.
The year 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Cerebrovascular Diseases and we wish to celebrate with you. To mark this occasion, we want to share with you specially invited papers outlining the advances in research and practice in key areas of stroke.
30 Years of Cerebrovascular Diseases
The year 2021 begins with hope. Once again, humanity and the medical community have united to overcome the challenges brought upon us so abruptly by the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of this medical emergency has changed our lives. A “new normal” has yet to be established, but one thing is clear, that we will not forget the origin of this for a long time.
This is also a unique year for the Karger journals Cerebrovascular Diseases and Cerebrovascular Diseases EXTRA, as we celebrate their 30th and 10th anniversaries, respectively. Cerebrovascular Diseases was founded in 1991 by Prof. Michael Hennerici (from Mannheim, Germany) and Prof. Julien Bogousslavsky (from Montreux, Switzerland), to provide the scientific community with a forum for original and relevant works on all aspects of cerebrovascular diseases and stroke. Their vision was to make the journal a space for recording the synthesis of opinions, original findings, and reviews on the varied specialties that the field encompasses, in the form of submissions from authors all around the world. Today, Cerebrovascular Diseases is an internationally recognized forum. For the past three decades, it has been a fundamental source of quality research findings produced by renowned international scientists, clinicians, and early career researchers.
Cerebrovascular Diseases EXTRA was founded by Prof. Michael Hennerici. The first issue was published in 2011.
Karger’s online-only open-access sister journals marked the start of our embracement of science’s open dissemination, and they were instrumental in paving the way for the continued expansion of our Open Access program [1].
Moving forward, on the 1st of September 2020, a new cycle began for Cerebrovascular Diseases and Cerebrovascular Diseases EXTRA, when Prof. Craig S. Anderson (Sydney, NSW, Australia) became the new Editor-inChief. To acknowledge the milestones reached by both of these journals in 2021, we will publish papers by authors who have been specially invited to contribute to anniversary celebratory sections that focus on the development of different topics in stroke. These sections will be published with free access, so as to reach a broad audience, and all issues published in the jubilee volume will feature a specially created logo.
After three decades and many challenges, Cerebrovascular Diseases remains a worldwide leading journal in the field of stroke. This success has been the product of collective effort. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank our editorial board members, past and present, as well as all authors, reviewers, readers, and staff, for their continued commitment to providing a reputable forum for the discussion of stroke research.
